Marjorie Shaad, 92, peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born in Valley City, North Dakota on December 4, 1922, the younger daughter of Benjamin and Luna Hayes Wilson. She received her early education in a one room school house in Peru, Clinton County. After graduating from North Rose Central School, Wayne County, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Geneseo State Teachers College in education and library science. She also earned additional degrees in secondary English and media specialist from SUNY Albany. Marge was the librarian at Union Academy in Belleville, Jefferson County, from 1944-1948. She married Calvin Shaad on August 15, 1947. Together, they taught at the Mayfield Central School District, she retiring in 1980. Marge was a member of the Mayfield Historical Society, Mayfield United Methodist Church, and Friends of the Gloversville Public Library. She was predeceased by her husband, Cal, of 54 years, brothers Hayes and Charles Wilson, and sister, Bernice Pluta. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Shaad-Derby (Bill), Janet Kucel (Stan), and granddaughters, Sierra and Margo Derby, Kaile Kucel (Christopher Sager), and Stacie (Brandon) Warner. She is also survived by family members that include two sisters-in law, Ruth Wilson and Lorraine Wilson, several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. A calling hour will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville from 11am to 12pm followed by a memorial service for family and friends at 12pm with the Rev. Dr. RW Williams officiating. Interment will take place in the spring privately at Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Gloversville Public Library, 58 East Fulton Street Gloversville, NY 12078, the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts, Checks, made payable to the "The Lexington Foundation Capital Campaign," should be mailed to: The Lexington Foundation Johnstown, NY 12095 Gloversville NY 12078 or to the Mountain Valley Hospice 108 Steele Avenue Gloversville NY 12078.
