Dorothy R. Wilkinson

Dorothy R. Wilkinson, 86, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam surrounded by her loving family. Born September 23, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late James V. Storey and Ruth Bahrenburg Storey. Dorothy graduated from Garden City High School in 1946 then went on to attended Mills College of Education in New York City and Adelphi University in Garden City, NY earning her Bachelor's degree in 1950. She taught 2nd grade in East Wiliston, New York for many years. She was always very active in her community serving as head of the Board of Assessment Review in Broadalbin for several years, was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin, President of the SYL Class and taught Sunday school and ran the nursery for many years. Dorothy also enjoyed knitting and crocheting making many afghans, cutting the lawn on her riding mower and always looked forward to her trips to Ogunquit, ME with her grandson Ryan. Dorothy is survived by her son James A. Wilkinson (Linda) of Amsterdam; daughter Lynn Walden (Tom) of Englewood, CO; grandchildren Ryan Wilkinson (Robbie Crocker) of Lewiston, ME, Amanda Abney (Temple) of Ft. Collins, CO and Nicholas Witkowski of Denver, CO. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John A. Wilkinson who passed away in 1985. Spring services will be private at the convenience of the family. The Wilkinson family graciously declines flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the First Presbyterian Church, 54 West Main Street, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
