Nancy Lee Harris
April 19th, 1942 - February 14th, 2015
Nancy Lee Harris , 72, of Calderwood Rd. West Galway, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Saturday Feb. 14, 2015. She was born April 19, 1942 in Amsterdam, NY and was the daughter of the late Leland and Marjorie Johnson. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong area resident. Nancy raised a generation of neighborhood children as a home day care provider and later worked as a teacher aide at Galway Central School. Nancy was a former member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Dept., a former member of the board of directors of the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society; and was chairman, host mother and grandmother of the Fresh Air Fund for many years. Nancy loved her family, country music, lighthouses and animals. On June 25, 1960, she married Richard T. Harris Sr. They were happily married for 54 years until Dick's death in August of 2014. Nancy was also predeceased by her son Scott Charles Harris; two infant grandchildren; her brother Robert Johnson and sister Carolyn Stanton. Nancy is survived by her children, Barbara (Bruce) Hartz, Richard T. (Lynn) Harris Jr., all of West Galway, and Fresh Air son George Bonilla of the Bronx; nine grandchildren, Rebecca (David Goyer) Hartz of Cazenovia, NY, Kristi (Robert Fisher) McRedmond of Thornton, CO, Steven (Ann Mazur) Harrington of Clayton, NY, Shanay Bonilla of West Galway, Melody and George Bonilla of the Bronx, Tiffany Popielarz of Freedom, PA and Jack and Jasmine Popielarz of Perth; great granddaughter Kinley McRedmond-Fisher and godson Alex Bell. Nancy is also survived by her sister and brother in law Lynn and Robert Smith and sister in law Marilyn Johnson; her great aunts Marcella Cornell and Lorraine Comstock and several nieces and nephews. Services are Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. James Galarneau officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. A spring interment will take place in West Galway Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the James A. Brennan Memroial Humane Society 437 Nine Mile Tree Rd. Gloversville 12078, the Perth Vol. Fire Dept. 4080 St. Hwy 30 Amsterdam 12010 or the Hagaman Vol. Fire Dept. 126 So. Pawling St. Hagaman 12086.
