Charles P. Brown
March 7th, 1940 - January 23rd, 2015
Charles P. Brown, 74, of Hagaman, New York died peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital with his family by his side. Born on March 7, 1940 in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John L. and Mary C. (Smith) Brown. Charles was a graduate of Dighton High school and later went on to attend U Mass at Dartmouth and graduate with a degree in Textile Technology. In 1957 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS John Paul Jones. He was honorably discharged in 1965 at the rank of Gun Fire Control Technician (FT-2). Charles began his career at Mohasco Industries from 1965-1980, and was an assistant to the Vice President of Manufacturing. He then went on to work for Fiber Glass Industries until 1985. Charles then joined Anderson Instruments in Glen as a manager until 1992. In that same year he was promoted to Safety and Environmental Manager at Gehring Tricot Corp. in Dolgeville until his retirement. Charles also worked for Liberty for a short while and was a driver for Brown's Transportation from 2009- 2012. An avid sports enthusiast, Charles was involved in various leagues throughout the city. He loved to play basketball and baseball. He coached for Little Giants, Amsterdam Babe Ruth, Softball and enjoyed golfing at Muni. Charles was also a member of the Post 701, Above all he loved his family dearly, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy T. (Buczkowski) Brown; his son, Charles C. Brown and his wife Lisa Brown; three grandson, Michael, Charles and Daniel Brown; his brother, Richard Brown and his wife Mary; a sister in law, Florence Brown; one niece, Lynn Brown; and one nephew, Rick Brown. He was preceded in death by his brother, John J. Brown; and his daughter, Kathleen Brown. Funeral services will commence on Monday, January, 26, 2015 at 10a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Hagaman. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 2 until 5p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kathleen Brown Scholarship Fund c/o Amsterdam High School Guidance Office, 140 Saratoga Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
