Mildred "Millie" M. Schmidt
December 20th, 1924 - October 11th, 2014
Mildred M. "Millie" Schmidt, 89, of Naples FL, and formerly a resident of Country Club Lane, Fort Johnson, NY passed away peacefully at North Collier Hospital in Naples with her family at her side. Born December 20, 1924 in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of the late Wilford and Clara Heinz Schiemer. Millie was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady. She attended Russell Sage School of Nursing and joined the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. Later she went back to school at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Hygiene where she received a Bachelor Degree in Health Education. She worked as a Dental Hygienist for many years. Millie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady. In 1944 she married her first husband David Koch who was killed in WWII and in 1949 she married August Schmidt who passed away in 1986. Survivors include three daughters; Davia (Arnold) McFarlane of Naples, FL, Paula Schmidt of Newnan, GA and Charlene (Gerald) Seiff of Naples, FL; two sons; Todd Schmidt of Union City, NJ and Timothy (Shannon) Schmidt of Sacramento, CA; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. William T. Hodgetts, Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 11 am to 12 noon at the funeral home.
