Mr. Donald Walther, 76, of Mayfield, passed away September 27, 2014 at Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. He was born March 18, 1938 in Gloversville, son of the late Henry and Genevieve Kucel Walther. He was educated in Gloversville schools and graduated Gloversville High School. A former Gloversville resident, Don was a proud Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1957-1960. He served as a security guard in Tennessee and at Camp Pendleton, CA. Earlier in life, Don played softball and enjoyed bowling. He had been a Cub Scout leader at the former Columbia School also. An avid outdoorsman, Don was always prepared for hunting, fishing or just traveling. He and his late brother Hank traveled several years throughout 48 states in their camper trailer. An avid Alabama football fan, he could always be heard yelling "Roll Tide"! Don also enjoyed NASCAR and would often share his enthusiasm with his many friends at Poor Jim's. Don retired from General Electric in 1995 after many years of faithful service as a machinist. A devoted father and grandfather, Don's greatest joy was his beautiful family. He enjoyed hockey with the grandchildren as well as various sporting and school events. He will be dearly missed. Don was married to Sandra L. Palmateer Walther on June 9, 1962, she predeceased him in 1994. Survivors include his children: Lisa Walther (Ron Ayres) of Fultonville, Donald J. Walther of Rock Hill, S. Carolina and Kelly (Greg) Frederick of Townsend MA. Don is also survived by his dear grandchildren: Jacqueline Miller (Marty), Jessica Nellis, Roger Nellis III, Marc Frederick and Donnie J. Frederick as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Don's family anxiously await the first great grandchild, expected in May 2015. He will also be deeply missed by his "S.
