Helen B. Valentino, 77, of Amsterdam passed away peacefully at E.L. Wilkinson Nursing Home on December 6, 2013. She was born December 31, 1935 in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Camilla Smitka Rogers. Helen attended St. Mary's Institute. She was first employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Amsterdam then the Greater Amsterdam School District. She was last employed by Amsterdam Printing and Litho Company and retired many years ago. She was a dedicated mother and wife, she loved her family very dearly. She is survived by a loving son, Leo Valentino of West Chester, PA, a brother Joseph Karen Rogers of Alexandria, VA, and two sisters Lenora Niemietz of Amsterdam and Irene Kuchis of Hagaman, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins that also survive. Helen is predeceased by her beloved husband Leo A. Valentino whom she wed in 1955. They shared a union of fifty years until his passing in 2005. She was also predeceased by a sister, Josephine Jarosz and her brothers Frank, Sylvester, Raymond and Leonard Rogers. Her brother John Rogers recently passed away on December 1, 2013. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2pm at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY 12010 with Deacon Michael Ryba officiating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 12pm until 2pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
