Mary Josephine Marotta
July 2nd, 1924 - October 16th, 2017
Mrs. Mary Josephine Marotta, of Northern Blvd. Hagaman, NY died peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 2, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Clorinda Farina. A lifelong area resident, Josie attended local schools and was of the Catholic faith. She along with her family owned and operated The Carmen Drive- In in Guilderland from 1949 until 1986. She also along with her husband owned and operated The Spanish Galleon Restaurant and the Valley View Motel in Amsterdam retiring in 1986. Josie was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Dinners, holidays and special occasions were centered always at her home and everyone always felt welcome. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. On April 24, 1949 she was united in marriage to Peter Marotta. That union lasted 43 years until his passing on January 20, 1992. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Frank, Carlo, Anthony, John, Rachel, Susan and Yolanda. She is survived by her sons, Anthony P. Marotta and his wife Gabrielle, and Wayne J. Marotta and his wife Amy; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Jeremy, Danielle and her husband Derek, Jon Marotta and his wife Jessica and Joseph Marotta; two great grandchildren, Gianna and Nico; her siblings, Vincent Farina and Adaline "Dolly' Somers; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 9 o'clock at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, 51 N. Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to St. Stephen's Church. Please visit the online memorial at www.brbsfuneral.com
