Elizabeth C. Palmer
February 26th, 1920 - August 19th, 2013
Elizabeth C. Palmer, 93, formerly of Langley Rd, Amsterdam and a resident of the E.L. Wilkinson Health Care Facility, Amsterdam, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 26, 1920 a daughter of the late Lester and Marion Ladner Chapin. She attended school in Long Island, NY that included Rockville Center School, Southside Jr. High and South Side High School of which she graduated in 1939. Mrs. Palmer received her L.P.N. from former Amsterdam City Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She was first employed as a staff nurse in Glenridge, NY. She then worked from 1965 to 1972 at the VA Hospital in Albany, NY. In 1972 she took a position at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. She then worked as a Home Health Aide in Gloversville and occasionally would work as a Hospice nurse there. Mrs. Palmer enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and raising her pet cats and dogs. She was a member of the former Second Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. She married Russell I. Palmer on December 23, 1942. He passed away on April 6, 1986. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Alling of Gloversville, NY and Shirley Palmer of the Town of Florida, NY. Three grandchildren, Jennifer Chris Kelly, Brian Becky Alling, and Devin Alling. Great grandchildren, Michaela and Gabriella Kelly and Trevor Alling. Elizabeth was predeceased by her son Thomas Palmer on November 9, 2009 and a daughter in law Carol A. Jager Palmer on August 19, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 1:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Nat Gulotta presiding. Interment will follow cremation in West Glenville Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, P.O. Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
