Marian G. Finkle
April 22nd, 1925 - July 6th, 2013
Marian G. Finkle, 88, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Daughters of Sarah Senior Community in Albany, following a long illness. Born in New Haven, CT on April 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late David and Sylvia Golubuff Gollender. She attended Hill House High School in New Haven, where she graduated as salutatorian of her class, as well as Bryant College in Providence, RI. Mrs. Finkle was married to Leon Finkle on October 19, 1946, and the two were married for 52 years until Leon's passing on May 30, 2002. In addition to raising her four children, Mrs. Finkle was also an active member of the women's chapter of the National Association of Tobacco Distributors, and was named that organization's Woman of the Year in 1973. She was also honored by the Jewish Federation with the Lion of Judah award for her service and philanthropy. Locally, Mrs. Finkle was the first woman to be president of Knesseth Israel Synagogue in Gloversville, was an active member of the local Hadassah chapter, and served as president of the Boulevard Elementary School PTA. She is survived by two sons: Mark Deb Finkle of Gloversville and Dan Finkle of Niskayuna; two daughters: Jane John Finkle-Michel of Philadelphia, PA and Amy Judry Subar of Potomac, MD; nine grandchildren: Corey Jill Finkle, Seth Finkle, Zachary Subar, Micah Subar, Jacob Finkle, Ayal Subar, Samara Finkle, Cory Jennie Dalmata and Joli Dalmata; and three great-grandchildren: Leon "Leo" Finkle, Cashton Dalmata, and Hadley Dalmata. There will be a funeral service held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 East Fulton Street, Gloversville, with Rabbi Rose Durbin officiating. Interment will take place at Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Clyde Street, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern New York Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205. Arrangements are with Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078
