Abel E. Granthon

Mr. Abel E. Granthon, Jr. of Grand Street, Amsterdam died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 13, 2013 with his family by his side. Born on February 19, 1928 in Lima, Peru he was the son of the late Abel E. Granthon, Sr. and Juana Delgado Granthon. In pursuit of the American dream, Abel moved to the United States where he had a long career with General Electric in Schenectady. He did many things throughout his life to support his family. Abel was a true American Patriot who believed in the democratic process. He was involved locally supporting many politicians in their election campaigns. Often, Abel could be seen driving his van around the City supporting candidates. Above all he loved his family and took great pride in taking care of his properties. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Maria L. Gonzalez Granthon; his children, Isabel Granthon, Juana Granthon, Abel Granthon III, Jimmy Granthon, Narcissa Granthon, Hugo Granthon, Jenny Granthon, Gwendolyn Granthon, Martin Gonzalez, John Gonzalez, Myra Gonzalez; personal friend, Eric Guilder; and many grandchildren.He is also survived by several brothers and sisters as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services are private at Abel's request. Those wishing to remember him are asked to donate in his memory to Centro Civico, 143 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. The family wishes to thank Carol, Tara, MaryAnn, JoAnn, Ashley, Helen, Barbara and the entire team at Community Hospice as well as the 2nd floor staff at St. Theresa's Hall at St. Mary's Hospital.
