Filomena "Mena" Marciniak
May 30th, 1923 - March 27th, 2013
Filomena "Mena" Lucia Marciniak, R.N., 89, formerly of Jewett St., Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Wednesday March 27, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 30, 1923 a daughter of the late Dominick and Lena Vigliotti Sarra. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a 1941 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was also a 1944 graduate of the former St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Amsterdam. Mena was one of the first nurses to work in the recovery room at St. Mary's Hospital which began in 1960. She worked there for five years and then moved to the operating room. She last was the Head R.N. in the O.R. until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Marciniak was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She married Leonard Joseph Marciniak on May 4, 1947. He passed away on December 1, 1998. Survivors include her two sons, Richard Joan Marciniak of Schoharie, NY. and Robert Marciniak of Amsterdam. One sister, Carmella Spina of Schenectady, NY. Four cherished grandchildren, Amanda Jeff Vogel of Gallupville, NY, Todd Marciniak of New York City, Jennifer Marciniak of Cobleskill, NY and Timothy Brittany Marciniak of Rochester, NY. Five great-grandchildren, Josh Glick, Hope and Luke Morgenstein, Grace Vogel and Maddie Marciniak. Daughter-in-law, Lani Marciniak of Rochester, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard and one son, Thomas Marciniak on February 16, 1986. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 30th, 2013 at 11:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker presiding. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday March 30th, 2013 prior to the funeral service from 9:30A.M. to 11:30A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
