Douglas Small

Douglas Small, 68, of Old Trail Rd., Liberty Residence, Fonda, NY passed away Friday March 15, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 23, 1945 a son of James and Beatrice Vrooman Small. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Douglas worked for a time at the Liberty Work Shop in Amsterdam. He lived at home for most of his life until moving to his Liberty resident in recent years. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, fishing and a cold beer. He always referred to his female friends as his ladies. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Small was a member of the United Methodist Church in Amsterdam. Survivors include his brother, George Small and his wife Barbara of Gloversville, NY. His niece and nephew, Lisa Wend and her husband Philip of Rotterdam, NY and George Small Jr. of Gloversville, NY. Two great nieces, Erin and Elyse Piseczny and cousins. He is also survived by his housemates and caregivers on Old Trail Rd. in Fonda. He was predeceased by his parents James and Beatrice. His mother Beatrice was one of the founding members of Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 18, 2012 at 11:00A.M. at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam with Rev. Greg DeSalvatore presiding. Interment will be in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday morning from 9:00 to 11:00A.M. prior to the funeral service at the United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Liberty Foundation, P.O. Box, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
