Harriet "Maggie" E. Grinnell
May 6th, 1927 - January 31st, 2013
Harriet E. Grinnell, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday morning at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. She was affectionately known as "Maggie" to her family and friends. Born in Amsterdam on May 6, 1927, the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Sutliff Myers, she was a 1945 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. A lifelong resident, she worked for Amsterdam Printing, the Telephone Company, and Ward Products until she retired. On June 30, 1951 she was united in marriage to Elmer B. Grinnell. She was an avid gardener, a voracious reader, a lover of arts and crafts, and a volunteer at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady. She is predeceased by her husband and two of their sons, Douglas S. and Kevin E. Grinnell. A warm and loving mother, she is survived by her children; Ronald L. Kitty Nelson Grinnell of Centereach, NY, Richard A. Shawna Donnell Grinnell of Forest Hill, CA., Kathy "Kate" Walter Czajka of Red Hook, NY, and Laurie late Dan Kielbasa of Amsterdam. A devoted and adoring grandmother to her grandchildren; Clara Joe LaPorte, Jenny Bryan Galough, Kristen, Elizabeth and Ann Kielbasa, Lynne and Christopher Czajka, Beth and Sean Eve Grinnell, Bethany, Chris and Kevin Jr. Grinnell; a great granddaughter Ella Galough and one more on the way; A loving sister to Albert Myers, Jr. of Amsterdam and Robert Myers of Honeywell Corners, Broadalbin; and nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her life will take place on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. The Rev. Cynthia Leonard presiding. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 to 6 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Montgomery Co. SPCA in care of the funeral home office, Amsterdam 12010, in honor of her love of animals.
