Mr. Ernest F. Lohmeyer, 84, formerly of Amsterdam, died peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2017 following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, New York on December 9, 1933 he was the son of the late William and Vivian Wright Lohmeyer. A lifelong area resident, Ernest was employed for over 33 years for the New York State Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. He served proudly with the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed camping and being with his family. On June 30, 1973 he was united in marriage to Marguerite Hazzard Lohmeyer. That union lasted 33 years until her passing on September 28, 2006. He was also predeceased by his previous wife, Mary Kilmartin Lohmeyer in 1968; and his son Leonard Lohmeyer in 2017. Survivors include his children Vivian Sweeney and her husband Donald and Frederick Lohmeyer and his wife Tanya; his brother, William Lohmeyer and his wife Pat; five grandchildren Tuesday, Chad, Samantha, Joey Dylan; three great grandchildren; and several step children, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, New York.
