Stanley E. Bellinger

Mr. Stanley E. Bellinger, age 83, of Johnstown, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home. He was born August 8, 1929 in Johnstown, the son of the late Erwin and Lillian Tupper Bellinger. He served in Greenland and Iceland for the US Navy in the 1940'S. He was employed by the former Independent Leather Company of Gloversville and was a self-employed contractor in the mid 1960's-1980's, doing trucking, backhoe and bulldozing. Stan enjoyed any discussion regarding religion or politics. He raced stock cars in the 1950's and enjoyed NASCAR and area racing, especially watching his son John and grandson Bodie. He enjoyed sharing his faith and established the former Lighthouse Youth Center in Johnstown . He also provided work for many of the young people in the community. Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn M. Dutcher Bellinger of Johnstown; six children: Barney Bellinger Susan of Mayfield, John Bellinger Karen of Johnstown, Bonnie Compagnone Jon of Orange City, Florida, Gloria Brown Bob of Caroga Lake, Mary Veeder of Johnstown and Stephanie Gerlach Steve of Fonda; a brother, Lester Bellinger Shirley of Johnstown and a son in law, Robert Bulger of Johnstown. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Shelly Bulger. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Sacandaga Bible Conference, P.O. Box 247, Broadalbin, NY 12025
