Neil A. D'Alessandro
February 25th, 1912 - August 4th, 2012
Neil A. D'Alessandro, 100, of West Main Street, Amsterdam passed away Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born February 25, 1912 in Raven Run, PA and he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine D'Isabella D'Alessandro. He moved to Amsterdam in his youth. Neil was first employed at the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills in Amsterdam and later he went to work for the City of Amsterdam for 25 years as a truck driver for D.P.W. retiring in 1973. He was a member of the former St. Michael the Arch Angel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Neil loved to sit on his front porch, work in his yard and was an avid Yankees fan. On April 5, 1942, he married the former Mary Derrico who passed away December 19, 1992. He was also pre-deceased by two brothers; Dominic and Jerome and three sisters; Frances, Theresa and Sofie. Survivors include his devoted daughter; Mary Jo D'Alessandro of Amsterdam and close friend Margaret Papa and family of Amsterdam, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 10:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. Johns Street, Amsterdam. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to GAVAC, PO Box 11, Amsterdam.
