Clara Stuart
March 26th, 1936 - July 30th, 2012
Mrs. Clara Stuart, 76, of Gloversville, passed away Monday July 30, 2012 at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown. Born March 26, 1936 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Emma Davis Graff. She was educated in local schools and early in her life was employed at various area factories. She was a devoted homemaker most of her life. Clara was very proud of her involvement with the Domestic Violence Program of the Family Counseling Center where she was a volunteer for many years, especially enjoying the Fall festival. Clara was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an avid traveler, having lived in many states including Indiana, N. Carolina and Alabama. Her hobbies included bingo, a love of crossword puzzles and collecting teddy bears. She mostly enjoyed family affairs especially with her grandchildren. A particular childhood memory was a 1946 boat trip to post war Germany with her mother and military father. They observed the still smoldering buildings of the war. Clara is survived by her husband Clyde Stuart of Gloversville, her children: Laurel Coon and Karen Insogna and her fiancé Brad James all of Gloversville, Phyllis Lair and her companion Joseph Vietri of Johnstown and Ken Bunn Holly of Poultney, VT. She is also survived by sisters: Audrey Lyon of Yelm, WA., Patricia Boyd of Doosier City, Louisiana, Phyllis Lewis of Cottonwood, Alabama, Mary Lou Sweet of Gloversville, and Betty Jane Maines of Northville. Clara is survived by nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Additional survivors include step-daughters; Cindy Loucks Mark of Ballston Spa, Bonnie Wilcox Melvin of N. Carolina, Sharon Lee Clyde Peek of Gloversville, Laurie Stuart of Gloversville and James Stuart of New Hamsphire. step-sisters; Sharon Hassafurter of Florida, Clara Louise Thatcher of Northville and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a step-brother Michael Davis. Clara is also survived by a sister-in-law Barbara Homs of Amsterdam. A funeral service will be held 1 pm Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville with Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11- 1 pm prior to the service. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Domestic Violence Program at Family Counseling Center, 11 Broadway, Gloversville, N.Y. 12078
