Mr. Charles F. "Chub" Edwards, age 74, of Broadalbin, died Saturday evening, June 9, 2012 at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown. He was born January 18, 1938 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Ward and Sylvia Blocker Edwards. He was educated in Broadalbin schools. In 1951, at the age of 13, he received a citation from the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post in Broadalbin recognizing his heroics when he saved a man from drowning in the Sacandaga Reservoir. Chub served his country faithfully in the US Navy for 14 years from August of 1955 to November of 1969. In August of 1966 he received a citation from the Navy for his service in Danang, Vietnam. Chub was employed at Broadalbin Plumbing and Heating for several years, then at Treher & Jung in Gloversville, for several years at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany and also at Holland Meadows Golf Course. He was past president of the North Broadalbin Beach Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Chub was predeceased by his wife, Diana Morey Edwards, who died March 4, 2012. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday. He is survived by: three children: Kimberly A. Buchanan Keith of Gloversville and Mark D. Edwards and Jennifer A. Edwards, both of Broadalbin; two grandchildren: Joshua Buchanan and Courtney Buchanan; a brother, Richard Edwards Patricia of Virginia; a sister, Patricia Edwards of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13 at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St; Broadalbin, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday with the Pastor Scott Baldwin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 78517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
