Salvatore Lomanto

Salvatore Lomanto, 91 of Gloversville, died Monday June 4, 2012 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Born in Gloversville on April 16, 1921, he was the son of the late Rosario and Maria DeRocco Lomanto. Salvatore graduated Gloversville High School in 1939 and was a member of the undefeated football team. He served in the United States Army in the African and Italian Campaigns and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during service. He was initially the owner of R. Lomanto & Sons Produce Market in Gloversville and later retired as a John Hancock Life Insurance Agent. He was married to Betty Perrone Lomanto on April 17, 1949, she pre-deceased him on July 28, 2011. Survivors include his grandchildren; Donald Lomanto, Lynn Gillen, Beth Vernold and Daniel Lomanto as well as his daughter-in-law Ann Lomanto. Salvatore is also survived by his sisters and brothers; Concetta Salluzzo, Mary Jane Lomanto, Atty. Edward S. Lomanto and Judge Angelo D. Lomanto. He was pre-deceased by his son Dr. Donald S. Lomanto, a sister Frances Spencer and brothers James V. Lomanto and Joseph Lomanto. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 pm Wednesday June 6, 2012 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville. In accordance with Mr. Lomanto's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to The Church of the Holy Spirit building fund, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville, N.Y. 12078, or to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville.
