Kenneth Marshall, 98, of Brant Avenue, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning at his home. Born December 17, 1913 in Fort Johnson, New York he was the son of the late Herbert and Grace Purdell Marshall. He was a life long resident of Fort Johnson and attended Fort Johnson schools. Ken was employed by L.B. Foster Company; the County and New York State Highway Departments and General Electric Company of Schenectady, for 32 years, where he was a large machine operator. He also owned and operated with his late wife Lois, the Marshall's Ice Cream Parlor in Fort Johnson. He enjoyed family gatherings; hunting and fishing locally and in Speculator; gardening; photography; maple tree tapping and making maple products; horse racing and bee keeping. Ken was a member of the Fort Johnson speed skating team and the Fort Johnson School Board; Fort Johnson Youth Commission and maintained the Fort Johnson Skating Rink for four years; National Gourd Society; and the New York State Maple Producer's Association. On December 28, 1939 he married the former Lois Elizabeth Shelmandine in Northville, NY and she passed away June 9, 2005. He was also predeceased by his son Robert Duane Marshall who passed away January 1, 2004 and three siblings, Harold Joseph Marshall and Ruth Jane Hutton and Esther Cora Rady. Survivors include three daughters, Jean Elizabeth Weakley Ronald of Charlton, NY, Sharon Ann Brooks Nicholas of Glenville, NY, and Lois Ellen Goblet James of Berne, NY; thirteen grandchildren, James Robert Marshall, William John Marshall, Ross Whitebeck Marshall, Dean Weston Marshall, Timothy Ryan Weakley, Jonathan Edward Weakley, Scott David Brooks, Michael Daniel Brooks, Nicole Elizabeth Brooks, Justin Marshall Goblet, Lois Jessica Goblet, James Johnson Goblet and Elizabeth Grace Goblet; 7 great grandchildren, Korrine Bethany Marshall, Forystt Sage Marshall, Elizabeth Brook Marshall, Noah Kenneth Marshall, Klara Jules Weakley, Vanessa Carly Brooks, Mollie Jae Goblet; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral servicers will be held on Saturday March 10, 2012, at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Greg DeSalvatore officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. A Candle Light Legacy Ceremony will take place that evening at 7:45 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Ken's memory to the Amsterdam United Methodist Church, 347 Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the SUNY Cobleskill Foundation, Ken & Betty Marshall Equestrian Scholarship Fund, 211 Knapp Hall, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
