Beatrice L. Small

Beatrice L. Small, 100 years old, passed away Wednesday February 15, 2012 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 31, 1911 a daughter of the late Edward and Meldia Stanton Vrooman. She was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Beatrice worked as a seamstress for Montco Manufacturing in Amsterdam. She also worked for the former Coleco Industries and the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mill in Amsterdam. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Amsterdam. Beatrice enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, baking cookies, camping and above all spending time with her family. Beatrice was one of the founding members who started the first ARC that then became Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam. She married James Small on June 28, 1941. He passed away on December 20, 1977. Survivors include her two sons, George Small and his wife Barbara of Gloversville, NY and Douglas Small of Fonda, NY. Two grandchildren, Lisa Wend and her husband Philip of Rotterdam Jct., and George Small Jr. of Gloversville, NY. Two great grandchildren, Erin and Elyse Piseczny. Cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Ruth Wellman and Viola Guertin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 18, 2012 at 11:00A.M. at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam with Rev. Greg DeSalvatore presiding. Interment will be in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday morning February 18, 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00A.M. prior to the funeral service at the United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Liberty Foundation, P.O. Box, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
