Valmore L. Girard

Valmore L. Girard, age 79, of Mayfield passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at Nathan Littauer Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Johnstown, NY on March 17, 1932 the son of the late Leo and Blanche Girard. On June 29, 1974, Val married Carole Salvione Girard. They have shared 37 years united in marriage. Val proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Gloversville VFW Post # 2077, Colonial Rods & Customs Car Club and a former member of the Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, old cameras as well as collecting guns, stamps and coins. Val is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carole Girard of Mayfield, two sons: Stephen Girard Melinda of Mayfield, Steven Skiff Kimberly of Broadalbin, two daughters: Shanda Girard-Sweet of Mayfield, Gina Warsaw Thomas of Gloversville, two brothers: Kenneth Girard, Doug Girard, a sister, Shirley Wheaton as well as 8 grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Valmore was preceded in death by a son, Randy Girard, two brothers: Russ Girard, Bart Girard, his first wife, Janet Girard-Hayes and a sister-in-law, Leona Girard. Family and friends are invited and may call from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday January 26, 2012 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the conclusion of calling hours at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
