Charles R. Ashelman
August 19th, 1927 - July 20th, 2017
Charles R. "Chuck" Ashelman, 79, of Mayfield, NY died on July 20, 2017 at Mountain Valley Hospice following a difficult battle with cancer. Born on August 19, 1937 he was the son of the late Lyman and Nora Jane Ashelman. Chuck married Dianna T. Lemmey in 1959. They were happily married for 52 years before her death in 2011. He later found happiness in his brief marriage to Anita Moore until her death in 2015. He was also predeceased by his son Charles; and his siblings, Junior Ashelman and Nancy Belles. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Chupka and her husband Peter; his daughter-in-law, Christina Ashelman; He was a grandpa to Ashley, Michelle, Joseph and Joelize Ashelman and a FaFa to Mara and Colleen Chupka; and his siblings, Robert Ashelman, David Ashelman and Carolyn Morris. A lifelong area resident, Chuck was employed by Keymark Corp. in a supervisory capacity for over 20 years. He later joined School House Warehousing where he retired from in 2012. Chuck was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. He was actively involved in the former Social Spirits Group and the Holy Name Society. He spent countless hours volunteering for different activities at his church. Chuck enjoyed golfing, hunting, gardening and casino visits. He was a passionate New York Yankee fan and a San Francisco 49ers fan and rarely missed a game. He loved his family and enjoyed being a Dad and Grandpa; he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main Street, Gloversville with The Very Rev. Donald Czeluzniak as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice Foundation, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or Church of the Holy Spirit.
