Mary D. Robbins
June 9th, 1921 - January 12th, 2012
Mrs. Mary D. Robbins, 90, of Gloversville, passed away Thursday at her home. She was born in Jackson, Michigan on June 9, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Flossie Smith Docksey. Mrs. Robbins was educated in Michigan and graduated Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She moved to this area in the 1940's and took several graduate courses at Cornell University as well. Mary was a dietician at Nathan Littauer Hospital for some time and also taught at the former Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing. Devoted to her family, Mary was a homemaker, raising her children and enjoying their childhood, until she decided to return to her career in 1960. As director and staff coordinator of the Fulmont Cornell Cooperative Extension Program, Mary enjoyed many years of service until her retirement in 1980 and eventual move Port Charlotte, Florida. An avid reader, Mary also enjoyed quilting, gardening, collecting sea shells and was well known as an excellent cook. She also had been on the advisory committee to the Commissioner of Social Service for many years. Mary is survived by her children: Karen Robbins and D. Robert "Rob" Robbins Jr. Hope all of Gloversville. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sue Matthews Greg, Sherry Cocker Tom, and Christine Vetri-Bane. Mary also has five great grandchildren: Joseph and Nicholas Matthews, Ryan and Amanda Cocker and Chace Bane. Nieces and nephews also survive. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband D. Robert Robbins Sr., whom she married March 16, 1946, a sister Myrabelle Argotsinger and a brother Frank Docksey Jr. Funeral services will be held 4 pm Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Kobuskie -Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville with Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 pm prior to the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of her family. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville.
