Elizabeth J. Cummings

Mrs. Elizabeth J. "Betty" Cummings, 80, of Currytown Road, Sprakers, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Born July 2, 1931 in Ephratah, NY she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Hazel Denmark Wemple. A lifelong resident of the area, Betty graduated from Fultonville High School and was employed as the Assistant Manager of the former Canajoharie Building Savings & Loan. Betty also worked for a time as Super Sampler for Price Chopper in Palatine Bridge. She was an avid bowler, gardener, quilter, baker and loved cards and games. Betty and Walter were also former members of Kurly Q's Square Dance Club of Canajoharie. Above all she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. On October 15, 1955 she was united in marriage to Walter C. Cummings. After marriage, Walter and Betty moved to Florida for 11 years, then returned back to the area. Their union lasted a beautiful 55 years, until his recent passing on June 1, 2011. Her loving family includes her daughter Suzanne M. Aldi and her husband James of Palatine Bridge, NY; one son, Thomas W. Cummings and his wife Ann of Florissant, CO; grandchildren, Christopher Aldi, Kelsey Aldi, Maureen Cummings and Sam Cummings; two sisters, Mary M. Downes of Palatine Bridge, NY and Linda L. Fancher of Eloy, AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Lewis Wemple. Funeral services will commence Today, Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spence Chapin Children's Services or Wide Horizons for Children in care of the funeral home office.
