Memorial

Steve Leech, 68, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at is home in Aurora, Colorado surrounded by his family. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born September 26, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Louis Leech (1927-2002) and Alberta Leech. He is survived by the love of his life of 49 years Sally Leech, 3 children, Kelly Burkart, Jerry Leech and Kristina Leech. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Sean Leech, Kayce Kirby, Matt Kirby (inherited by marriage), Jordyn Madsen, Carly Burkart, Dalton Burkart and Jillian Leech. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Debbie Ingram, Nancy Bittrolff and Patty Golz and many nieces and nephews. Steve is a veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Navy from 1964-1967. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he went to work for McDonald's and eventually took on the role of supervisor for 11 stores in the Aurora area and remained over 30 years. In recent years he decided to make a change and drove a bus for First Transit, a job he enjoyed until his battle with cancer would not allow him to continue. If you were lucky enough to be part of Steve's life then you know you could count on him to be there whenever you needed a hand whether he volunteered or was drafted. He was especially happy to use his endless supply of tools to build anything from a simple bench to a chicken coop. He was a rock in tough times and worked tirelessly to support his family. He demonstrated unconditional love to his children and grandchildren and showed us all with a simple look the love he had for Sally Kay. We will miss the devilish laugh he had when he thought he was being mischievous, the stern look that told you now was not the time, the exasperated look for a couple of us and the grateful look when his body no longer allowed him to be our rock. We are blessed to have had such an amazing man in our lives.
