Mrs. Lillian B. Reichel, 102, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home after being a resident for eight years. Born December 4, 1908 in Gloversville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Florence Dodge and Harry Ricketts. She was educated in Gloversville schools. Lillian worked for 20 years at Kresge's and was known for baking some of the finest pies around, she always had a warm smile and sense of humor. She was a devoted member of the Cranesville Reformed Church, involved in church functions as well as cooking for church suppers and volunteering for many church projects. Lillian was also a member of the Country Cousins Senior Citizens. She was married on June 17, 1928 to Edward O. Reichel who passed away in September 1, 1978. The couple had three children, Edward "Ted" Reichel of Advance, North Carolina, Mary Lou Wierzbowski of Middletown, Delaware and Deanna Francis Smith of Amsterdam, N.Y. all surviving. Lillian was also survived by twelve grandchildren, Amy Reichel- Stefanucci of California, RobertSon Reichel of Vermont, Thomas Donna Reichel of Hagaman, NY, John Wierzbowski of Connecticut, Mark Jodi Wierzbowski and Kathy Arthur Cohen of Delaware, Scott Mulford of Amsterdam, NY, Caren Patrick Mulford- Layne of Maine and Wendy Moore and her fiancé Howard Allen of Schenectady, also Sue Reichel and Kayle Tatiana Reichel of North Carolina and Joannie Scott Morse of Colorado. Also surviving are fourteen great grandchildren, Megan, Kate Cohen, Jana Wierzbowski, Christopher, Matthew, Amber, Mason, Madison Reichel, Terri Lynn, Charles Moore, Elliott, Beckett Mulford- Layne, Cameron and Donovan Morse. Lillian was survived by her great nephews Michael and Timothy Garrasi. Besides her husband of 50 years, Lillian was predeceased by her sister Edith Garrasi, brother in law Anthony Garrasi Sr. and nephew Anthony "Butch" Garrasi, also son in law's Stanley Wierzbowski and Charles Mulford. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011, at 1:30 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Jennifer Elliot officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam. A calling hour will be held on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Lillian's memory to the Cranesville Reformed Church or to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam in care of the funeral home.
