Ethel L. Squires
November 2nd, 1928 - April 11th, 2011
Ethel L. Squires, 82, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully Monday, April 11, 2011 with her loving family at her side. She was born November 2, 1928 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Miller Hayes. Ethel worked as an aide at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility for twenty five years. On September 14, 1947, Ethel married her sweetheart, Robert E. Squires. They enjoyed over forty nine years of marriage together until Robert's passing October 17, 1997. She had a great love of taking care of the elderly and also of animals. She was a member of the Old Heldeburgh Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ethel will be sadly missed. Ethel is survived by a son, Robert M. Squires of Gloversville; two daughters: Jeanne L. Baker Bill and Lori R. Squires Ron Sobkowich , both of Gloversville; four grandchildren: Ronnie Sobkowich, Christy Clark, David Valik and Jennifer Short; eleven great grandchildren: David Valik, Johnny Valik, Jessica Valik, Samantha Valik, Kevin Valik, Drew Valik, Jimmy Short, Jack Short, Elizabeth Clark, Kaylee Clark, Shyanne Sobkowich; a great great grandchild, Emma Valik; one brother, Harry Hayes of Gloversville; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her faithful dog, Pete. In addition to her beloved husband, Ethel was predeceased by two brothers: Cecil Hayes and Bill Hayes and two sisters: Ruth Bernosky and Dorothy Whiting. Services for Ethel will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Interment will take place at Perth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ethel's memory to the National Spinal Cord Injury Foundation, P.O.Box 20516, Rochester, NY 14602.
