Nora Mae Hardies
November 1st, 1926 - February 7th, 2011
Nora Mae Hardies, 84, of Van Dyke Avenue, formerly of Northampton Road, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011, at home. She was born November 1, 1926 in Amsterdam, NY, a daughter of the late John and Agnes Going Koch. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was married to Edwin K. Hardies on August 30, 1947, he was the love of her life and they shared a beautiful 54 years united in marriage. He passed away on January 23, 2001. After having six children at home, Mrs. Hardies became a Licensed Practical Nurse and was president of her nursing class. She had been employed by the former Lamp Nursing Home as well as Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hardies was a Parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and had served as a Church Council Member of St. Joseph's Church. She was a past member of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She was very active in the PTA and a home room mother at Guy Park Avenue School too many times to count. Mrs. Hardies was a Boy Scout Den Mother for her son Michael. She also assisted her husband in starting Hardies Electric Co. She was a very proud mother and grandmother. Her loving family includes her children, Dr. Michael Hardies Cheryl, Colleen Medwid Michael, Sean Hardies Marilyn, Kelly Diamond Timothy all of Amsterdam, Kathleen LaConte James of Bradenton, FL. and son in law Louis DiManno of Amsterdam. Surviving grandchildren are Kimberly Garcia, Louis DiManno, Allison DiManno, Shawna Hardies, Anna Hardies, Sarah Medwid, Meghan Medwid, Lauren Hardies, Kelly Sawyer, Caitlyn Diamond, Timothy Diamond, Michael Medwid, Sean Hardies, John Hardies and Michaela Hardies. Her great grand children are Kiara, Louis, Hailee, Nathan, Kaitlyn and Roy. Mrs. Hardies is also survived by two special cousins Richard Koch and Edward Mondore, nieces, nephews and other cousins. She will be missed by her canine companion, Kate, a Bichon Frise. She was predeceased by a daughter, Nora Sue DiManno, sisters, Orcelia Perkins, Mary McNamara, Margaret Louison and Catherine Jablonski as well as brothers, William and John Koch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Medwid at 9:15am Saturday, February 12, 2011, at St. Mary's Church. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4 until 7pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made: Edwin and Nora Hardies Scholarship Fund at St. Mary's Institute and at Amsterdam High School c/o the funeral home.
