Sandra R. McChesney
December 6th, 1948 - November 8th, 2009
Sandra R. McChesney, 60 years old of St. Paul Street, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a 3 year battle with Ovarian Cancer. She was born December 6, 1948 in Schenectady, a daughter of C. Duane and Mary Jane Miles McChesney. Sandra moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1989 where she resided until moving back to the Amsterdam area in 2001. She was a graduate of the Galway Central School System and of Hudson Valley C. C. Sandra was employed as an Insurance Enrollment Specialist at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She was active with the Caring Together Ovarian Cancer Support, Education and Awareness Group, a board member of the NYS Ovarian Cancer Information Advisory Council and a Share Hotline Volunteer. Sandra enjoyed riding her Harley Davison and was a member of the Sacandaga Harley Owners Group HOG. In addition to her mother of Galway, Sandra is survived by her daughter: Sharon Craig Ogden Jenkins of Broadalbin; her son: Jason Miyuki Horton of Doha, Qatar; her brothers: Gary Pat McChesney of Galway, Peter Vanessa McChesney of Middle Grove and Stephen Mary McChesney of Galway; her sisters: Linda John Colangelo of Amsterdam and Kathy McChesney and her partner, Ted, of Hagaman; and her grandchildren: Joshuah Ryan, Merlin Jacob, and Autumn Rose Ogden. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to her father, Sandra was predeceased by her brother Richard D. McChesney and her sister Sharon Ann McChesney. A Celebration of Sandra's life will take place 2:00pm Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Perthshire, Route 30 N. in Perth. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made: Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 910 17th Street, NW, Suite 1190, Washington, DC 20006. Sandra's family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Castro and staff at Amsterdam Cancer Center. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Mary's Hospital and her friends at Compassionate Care for their care and concern over the past three years.
