Richard William Riley
October 1st, 1919 - April 20th, 2009
Richard William Riley, 89, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. He was born October 1, 1919 in Syracuse, the son of the late Richard and Margaret Gooden Riley, Sr. He graduated from Roaring Springs High School in Pennsylvania. He also attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina where he earned his bachelor's degree. Mr. Riley served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1940 to 1945. He was in the 190th Artillery and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in France, Belgium and Germany. He was a certified public accountant by trade and was employed by Mohawk Cabinet, Crescent Leather and Colonial Tannery. On February 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary Edith Booth. She predeceased him June 15, 2008. Richard was a member of the Moose Club and was a past president of the American Legion Post and also a member of the VFW. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Riley is survived by a brother, Joe Riley of North Carolina, a nephew, Michael Duffy of New Hartford, NY, three nieces: Phyllis Duffy of Ft. Plain, Karen Clinton of Stittville, NY and Barbara Willers of Trumansburg, NY; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Duffy of Oneonta and several grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Richard was predeceased by two brothers: John Riley and Jim Riley, two nephews: Thomas W. Duffy and William Duffy, two nieces: Patricia Williams and Maureen Duffy and a sister-in-law, Natalie Duffy. Richard's family wishes to express a very special heartfelt thank you to the many friends and neighbors for their kindness and generosity over the years. A memorial mass will take place Saturday, April 25 at 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 189 Kingsboro Ave, Gloversville with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Cremation took place at the Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kobuskie- Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville.
