Charles Anthony Cassaro

Charles A. Cassaro, age 72, of Gloversville, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 29, 1936, son of Nelson and Luella Cassaro. Charles served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1961. He married the former Sandra J. Greene on June 28, 1958; they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Charles worked for several leather mills, including The Model Fur, before going on to work construction. He was injured during the Gilboa Power Plant Project in 1972, which left him confined to a wheelchair. He was dearly loved by all his family and friends. Charles was very handy and enjoyed several hobbies, such as rebuilding power engines, refurbishing antique clocks and many woodworking projects. His loving family includes his wife of 50 years, Sandra J. Greene Cassaro of Meco; son, Anthony Cassaro Mary Ellen of Meco; daughter, Suzanne Brown Jeff of Perth; son, Charles Cassaro, II of Meco; grandchildren, Melinda Cassaro of Tampa, FL, Jeffrey Brown of Perth, Kasandra & Cheyenne Cassaro of Meco; his mother, Luella, of Albany; brothers, Micheal Cassaro Nancy of Meco, Nelson Cassaro Mary of Albany and John Cassaro of Albany and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his father, Nelson, Charles was predeceased by his brother, Joe Cassaro and sister, Angie Cassaro. Funeral services will be Friday April 10, 2009 at 2:30 PM at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment with military services will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 10, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the funeral home.
