Ruth Silverman, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville. She was born May 24, 1922 in Gloversville, the daughter of Harry and Helen Schwartz Neivert. She was united in marriage to Barret Silverman, who survives, on September 27, 1944. They enjoyed sixty eight years together. Ruth was very active at the JCC of Gloversville, where she served on the board and also taught ceramics. She was a member of the K'nesseth Israel Synagogue and was in the Hadassah group there. Mrs. Silverman found great joy in cooking. Ruth was an extremely talented calligrapher as well. She was also very instrumental at the beginning of the Lexington Center when it began as the ARC. Mrs. Silverman enjoyed spending time with her family most of all and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her beloved husband, Barret Silverman of Gloversville, survivors include three sons: David Silverman of Johnstown, Dr. Russell Silverman and his wife Nancy of Fayetteville, N.Y and Hal Silverman and his wife Stacey of Fayetteville, N.Y.; four grandsons: Zachary, Eli, Joshua and Daniel and a sister, Bernice Sherman of Gloversville. Ruth was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Corwin. A funeral service will take place Thursday, January 29 at 1 p.m. at the K'nesseth Israel Synagogue in Gloversville with Rabbi Martin Gordon officiating. Interment will be at K'nesseth Israel Cemetery in Gloversville following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lexington Foundation, 127 East State Street, Gloversville, 12078 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, 12078.
