Gertrude H. Hoffman
August 8th, 1915 - December 14th, 2008
Gertrude H. Hoffman, 93, of Chestnut Street, passed away Sunday evening at the Edward l. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born August 8, 1915 in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Sarah Hockter Hoffman. She was a life long resident. Gertrude was a cosmetologist and was employed by Holzhiemer & Shaul, Edna Mae, Profile Beauty, and retired from Market Hill Hair Design on Market Street. She loved to knit and crochet, and cruised the Caribbean eleven times. Gertrude was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her sister Madelyn Folensbee. Survivors include her brother-in-law Harold J. Folensbee of Amsterdam; nieces and nephews, Judy Joe Catucci and Richard Diane Folensbee; great nieces and nephews, Michael, Brian, Kristin, Shaun, Jennifer and Sarah; long time close friend Catherine Kruger. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 10:00 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 9 to 10 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Gertrude's memory to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corner Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
