Helene S. Patterson Cole

Helene S. Patterson Cole, 85, of Calderwood Road, Amsterdam, formerly of Kane, PA passed away peacefully, Friday, October 3, 2008 at Mt. Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, NY. She was born in Wilkinsburg, PA December 17, 1922 a daughter of the late Rand G. and Marian Jocelyn Schenck. Helene was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School and a 1946 graduate of Duke University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. She married Howard C. Patterson on May 26, 1946. In addition to teaching elementary school, Helene assisted her husband, Howard, a Methodist Minister, in ministering the churches they served. They lived in Moncure, NC, Clintonville, PA, Mercer, PA, Dunkirk, NY and finally Kane, PA. In retirement, they lived in Gowanda, NY where Helene was predeceased by Howard in September of 1984. She then married B.F. Cory of Newark, OH in January of 1985, who predeceased her in 1993. Her final marriage was to Marvin Cole in 1997, together they resided in Frostproof, FL where he predeceased her in October of 2003. Helene then relocated to Amsterdam, NY to reside with her son and daughter-in-law in August of 2005. Her loving family includes her sons, David Patterson and his wife, Ann of Cabot, PA and Thomas Patterson and his wife, Robin of Amsterdam, NY, her brother, Rand G. Schenck, Jr. and his wife, Sarah of Conneaut, OH, her sister, Margaret Strickland and her husband James of Orlando, FL, and her grandchildren, Jillian, Laura and Blair Patterson of Cabot, PA, Dustin Stover of Plattsburgh, NY, and Laura and Zachary Stover of Amsterdam, NY. In addition to her parents and husbands, Helene was predeceased by a brother, James G. Schenck in 1993. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00PM, Today, October 5, at the Mt. Valley Hospice House, Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams, officiating. Interment will be later in the week at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Kane, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helene's memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
