Elizabeth "Polly" E. Williams
October 22nd, 1920 - September 20th, 2008
Elizabeth "Polly" E. Williams R.N., passed away Saturday at Ellis Hospital. Former resident of Mount Pleasant and Rotterdam, resident of The Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Altamont Avenue. Born October 22, 1920 in Ballston Spa, New York, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Pearl Craig Cull and step- mother Maude Guynup Cull. Elizabeth was a graduate of Ballston Spa High School and the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing in Gloversville. After her state exam she received her Registered Nursing License. Elizabeth was employed as a Registered Nurse at Ellis Hospital, Glen Ridge Nursing Home and the office of the late Doctor Tischler on Union Street, retiring in 1981. She was very active in the Christian community, Elizabeth was a member of the Cobblestone Church in Schenectady, and she served as a missionary in Haiti with her second husband Henry. Elizabeth was a former member of the Depot Lane Singers in Schoharie and was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels in Belchertown, MA. She loved to travel and play a marble game called Aggravation. Elizabeth was first married to John Posluszny who passed away in 1965. On May 15, 1976 she married Henry C. Williams. Besides her second husband she is survived by a son, John Posluszny Dottie of Schenectady; a daughter, Suzanne Durfee Al of Delanson; three grandchildren, Dennis Durrant, David Durrant and Darrell Durfee; two great grandchildren, Dennis and Preston; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Elizabeth was predeceased by seven brothers, Harry, Donald, Craig, Ernest, Raymond, Alfred and Walter; and a sister Alice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 4 at 4:00 PM at Cobblestone Church, Putnam & Gordon Roads in Schenectady with the Rev. Dr. Donald Peet officiating. It was Elizabeth's request to donate her body to science. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 421 New Karner Road, Suite 6, Albany, NY 12205. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Amsterdam.
