Amelia Slawienski
October 18th, 1918 - August 23rd, 2008
Mrs. Amelia Mary Slawienski, 89, formerly of Hawk St., Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning August 23rd, 2008 at the River Ridge Skilled Nursing Facility LLC. Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 18, 1918 a daughter of Stanley and Mary Ball Nowak. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended Amsterdam schools. Mrs. Slawienski worked as a sewing machine operator for many years at the Fownes Bros. Glove Mill in Amsterdam. Amelia's parents were one of the original members of the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church here in Amsterdam. She was a devout member of the church. She was a member of the M.K. Society, the Adoration Society, the Chopin Choir and various other committees in the church. Mrs. Slawienski also worked in the family catering business, Slawienski Caterers in Amsterdam. She loved to cook especially for her family gatherings on Sunday. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. Amelia had a great love for animals and especially loved cats and dogs. She leaves behind a beloved pet dog Camille. She married Leo W. Slawienski on November 17, 1935. He passed away on December 16, 1974. Survivor's include, One son, David Slawienski and wife Vicki of Amsterdam, one daughter, Sandra Tatlock and husband Gary of Broadalbin, NY. Five grandchildren, Peter Slawienski Denise, Autumn Tracki Robert, Dawn Tatlock Jamie Liverio, Chris Tatlock, Warren Tatlock and his fiancé Michelle Massaro. Five great grandchildren, Amber Tatlcok, Tatum Candice Liverio, Delana Galyn Tracki, Dawson Robert Tracki and Kevin Kowallo. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Amelia was predeceased by a son Leo S. Slawienski on August 17, 2005. A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday August 26, 2008 at 11:00A.M. at the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, 27 Teller St., Amsterdam, NY with Father Adam Czarnecki as celebrant. Interment followed in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Truax Rd. Amsterdam. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, 27 Teller St. Amsterdam, NY 12010.
