Warren W. Mead
May 24th, 1929 - July 21st, 2008
Dr. Warren W. Mead Jr., 79, of Crescent Lane, Vestal, NY, formerly of Riverview Road, Rexford, NY passed away July 21, 2008 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY. He was born in Amsterdam, NY, May 24, 1929 a son of the late Warren W. Mead Sr. and Emily Rust Mead. Warren was a 1947 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Dr. Mead attended Cornell University and graduated from the University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1953. He always believed strongly in the veterinary program at Cornell. He went on to practice veterinary medicine in Amsterdam, being a partner in the Moore and Mead Animal Hospital. In later years, Dr. Mead established the Mead Animal Hospital in Latham, NY, later renamed, Capitaland Animal Hospital, Inc., which he ran until his retirement in 1994. Warren was a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Warren was a devout member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal and was a caring and gentle man who will be missed by all. On June 7, 1952, Dr. Mead married the former Phyllis Bahn, who predeceased him on March 2, 2002. He then married the former Eleanor McClellan of Vestal on May 24, 2003. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons Roger D. Mead of Clifton Park, NY, and Mark A. Mead of Schenectady, two daughters, Nancy Carlson and her husband Jeffrey of Schenectady, NY, and Karen Pyle and her husband Richard of Longmont, CO, a brother, James Mead of the Town of Florida, a sister Marion Betz, of Ft. Johnson, NY, stepchildren, Scot McClellan and his wife Maureen, Hollis Misiewicz and her husband Pete, and Bruce McClellan and his wife Lisa, grandchildren Ronald Mead and Ryan and Lauren Pyle, step-grand children Laura, Nathan, and Christine McClellan and Tracy, Tara, Mathew, Brian, and Jeffrey Misiewicz, nephews Richard, David, and Jack Betz, Ronald Mead, and Robert Kruger, MD, niece Carol Wilary, and several great nephews and nieces. Dr. Mead was also predeceased by a son David Jeffrey Mead, daughter Sally Anne Mead, sister Helen Kruger, niece Connie Lais, sister-in-law Jean Mead, and brother-in-law John G. Betz, Jr. A Prayer Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, July 26, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Fr. David Mickiewicz, officiating. Interment with the Catholic Rite of Committal will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Steadwell Avenue, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the Prayer Service at the funeral home in Amsterdam beginning at 11:30AM. Funeral Services in Endicott will be held Friday, July 25, at 9:30 AM from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10 am. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Allen Memorial Home this evening Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Contributions in Dr. Mead's memory may be made by check written to Cornell University with a memo stating Veterinary College: John W. Whitehead Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Dr. Warren Mead. Mail checks to Cornell University, PO Box 2600, Ithaca, NY 14851. They may also be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church 157 Clark Street, Vestal, NY 13850.
