David Anthony D'Addio
March 8th, 1948 - July 5th, 2008
David Anthony D'Addio , 60, of Luther Street, Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, after being stricken. Born March 8, 1948, in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Nancy DiCaprio D'Addio. He was a graduate of Perth High School and a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill with an Associate's Degree in Business. David was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and he received a combat action ribbon for action against the enemy in the Gulf of Tonkin, June 27, 1972, while serving on the USS Paul Revere with the US Pacific Fleet. He was employed for over 30 years, by the New York Telephone Company, which became Verizon, out of Menands, until retiring in 2005. David spent his retirement working at Cappie's in Amsterdam and various odd jobs, painting and yard work. David was a happy-go-lucky person who visited everyone. He was the family ambassador and he loved the Saratoga racing season, and spending time at OTB. He was a score keeper at the Broadalbin High School for girl's basketball. He loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays, and never missed anyone's birthday. David was predeceased by his sister, Sandra D'Addio. Survivors include two daughters, Michelle D'Addio of Suffolk, Va. and Shannon D'Addio of Amsterdam; a brother, Michael D'Addio and his wife Ann-Marie of Amsterdam; nieces, Lisa D'Addio and Jennifer Kaszuba; nephews, Dr. Anthony D'Addio and Christopher Kaszuba; grand nieces, Madison Bollart, Macy Bollart and Karah Kaszuba; one grand nephew, Dayton D'Addio and several cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. Lawrence Decker officiating. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery in Amsterdam, with full military honors. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm, at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made in Dave's memory to GAVAC, P.O. Box 11, Amsterdam, NY 12010 and to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
