Elsie M. Smith
February 24th, 1911 - July 4th, 2008
Mrs. Elsie Mosher Smith, 97, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, Friday, July 4, 2008. She was born February 24, 1911 in Manheim, NY, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel Carr Windecker. She was married to Arthur J. Mosher in 1929. Mr. Mosher passed away in January of 1960. She married Earl Smith in December of 1960. Mr. Smith passed away in 1982. Mrs. Smith was employed for about 15 years at Robison & Smith in Gloversville. She later became a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening and hand crafts. She lived most of her life in Broadalbin, and lived with her daughter, Helen Reed and son-in-law, Willard Reed in Ocala, FL for the past nine years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin for seventy-nine years, where she was Past Secretary and President of its NS Class. She was also a member of the Broadalbin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for seventy-nine years and a member of the Perth Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, Melvin Mosher Barbara of Hagaman; a daughter, Helen Reed Willard of Ocala, FL.; a sister, Audrey Kraft of Lexington, South Carolina; a brother, Russell Windecker of Ft. Plain, a stepson, Harold Smith of Ocala, FL.; six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, sixteen step- great- grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers: Walter Windecker and Robert John Windecker; one sister: Edna Cool, a stepson and stepdaughter: Donald Smith and Doris Lockrow; and one great-granddaughter, Alysia Haak. Family and friends are invited and may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main Street, Broadalbin. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Interment will take place at Perth Cemetery. Donations may be made in Elsie's memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, 54 West Main Street, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
