Edward R. Manzer
January 8th, 1947 - January 14th, 2008
Mr. Edward R. Manzer, age 61 of Gloversville, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 8, 1947 in Johnstown, the son of Fred and Juanita Ropeter. A graduate of Johnstown High School, Ed served in the US Army for four years in Vietnam. He was employed by Bast Hatfield Construction for several years, and at the time of his death was a superintendent at Wright & Morrissey Construction Company of South Burlington, Vermont, where he worked the past 14 years. He is survived by his wife, Rene Darlene Ropeter Manzer, whom he married on May 5, 1981; six children, Edward M. Manzer and his fiance Jessica Stemmler of Mayfield, Zachary R. Manzer and Jacob F. Manzer of Gloversville, Brett Manzer, Velice E. Manzer of Gloversville, and Michelle Austin; a granddaughter, Jaden S. Manzer of Mayfield; a special niece, Annie Himpsl and her husband Scott and their children Nathan, Noah and Matthew; and a special nephew, Robbie VanAvery and his children Christian, Mariah and Emerald. Ed was predeceased by a son, Joshua F. Manzer. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held 10 am Friday. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to an Education Fund for Ed's youngest child, Velice Manzer, c/o First Niagara Bank, 201 Fifth Ave; Gloversville, NY 12078.
