Arnold G. Quackenbush
June 25th, 1924 - October 16th, 2007
Arnold G. Quackenbush, 83, formerly of University Place, passed away Tuesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health care Facility after a lengthy illness. Born in Amsterdam on June 25, 1924, he was the son of Edward and Mary Holt Quackenbush. A lifelong resident, he attended local schools. During World War II, Arnie proudly served his country with the US Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Italy. Following his honorable discharge, he began a long career in retail sales, working in the shoe department of both Mortan?s and Miller?s Clothing Stores. He truly enjoyed meeting the many local customers he served throughout his career until he retired in 1986. An avid bowler, he served as a secretary for the Friendly Bowling League for thirty five years. He had also been a member of the Muny Golf Course. Arnold enjoyed being with his family and was a great New York Giants and Yankee fan. On August 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Theresa Hill. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his daughter; Linda Marie Bell and her husband Francis of Fonda; granddaughter Melissa and her husband Carl Buanno; great grandchildren Zaye and Laine; sisters and brothers in law; Dolores and Frederick Frye, Felicia and james Fisher and Mary Hill; beloved nieces and nephews. His two sons; Richard and Bruce, and a brother, Loren Quackenbush all predeceased him. \ Services are Saturday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. Cynthia Leonard, officiating. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Arnie?s family is deeply grateful to the first floor staff at Wilkinson for their kind and dedicated care to him these past nine years. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in care of the funeral home office.
