Leo Sammarco

Mr. Leo Sammarco, age 85, of Gloversville, died Sunday, August 5, 2007. He was born on September 13, 1921 in New York City, the son of the late Joseph and Vincenza Paciolla Sammarco. A graduate of Gloversville High School, he served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1943. Leo was employed by several area leather glove shops and leather finishing companies, retiring from Wood & Hyde Leather Corporation in 1982. He was of Catholic faith, and was a member of Alban Hills Country Club and Nick Stoner Golf Club. Mr. Sammarco is survived by three sisters and a brother, Frances Sammarco of Gloversville, Lucy Armstrong of Gloversville, Emily Zambri of Schenectady and Ralph Sammarco of Gloversville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Private visitation will take place at the convenience of the family, followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 78517, Topeka, KS; 66675-8517 or to St. Judes Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN; 38103. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
