Joseph Jankowski
March 20th, 1927 - December 2nd, 2006
Mr. Joseph J. Jankowski, Jr., 79 years old, of Maple Avenue, Hagaman, died Saturday at St. Mary?s Hospital. He was born March 20, 1927 in Amsterdam, the son of Joseph J. and Anna Kotowski Jankowski, Sr., and was a life long resident of the Amsterdam area. Mr. Jankowski served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the American Theatre Medal. He was employed as a truck driver with Corenco Rendering Co. of Albany for 25 years until ill health forced his retirement. Mr. Jankowski was a communicant of St. Stephen?s Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 8690 of Broadalbin and had been a member of the former Zephyrs Semi Pro Football Team in Amsterdam. He was a referee with the Little Giants football program in Amsterdam and was a referee for high school football in our area. Mr. Jankowski enjoyed skiing, hockey and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Jankowski married the former Patricia Phyllis Urbelis on May 29, 1949 who survives. He is also survived by his son Joseph J. Jankowski, III, and his wife Sabrina of Thornton, Colorado; two daughters Judith Ann Horigan and her husband Tim of Galway, New York and Susan Carty and her husband Tom of Nashua, New Hampshire; two sisters Wanda Swierzowski of Amsterdam and Regina Szurek of Johnstown; eight grandchildren Kennedy and Joseph J. Jankowski, IV, Conor, Hannah, Brigid and Maggie Horigan, and Anna and Jeffrey Carty. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Ron Matulewicz at St. Stephen?s Church in Hagaman on Tuesday at 10:00am. Burial with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4 until 7pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen?s Church or the Amsterdam Little Giants.
