George W. Wadsworth
April 6th, 1924 - April 26th, 2006
George W. Wadsworth, 82, former resident of Fultonville passed away Wednesday morning at the Titusville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Titusville, Florida. Born April 6, 1924 in Albany, New York, he was the son of the late Charles Wesley and Laura Finch Wadsworth. He graduated from Fultonville High School in 1941. George was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving from 1941 through 1945 in the European Theatre of operations for 33 months. He was awarded five battle stars, a good conduct medal and the E.T.O. medal. He was employed by the Glen-Mohawk Milk Association Company in Fultonville as a manager. He was also employed by the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home for several years. George served as a Village Trustee from 1970 until 1987, then as Mayor of Fultonville from 1987 until 1991. He was a board member of the Fonda-Fultonville Central School for six years. George was a member of the Fultonville Reformed Church, where he served on the Consistory. He was also a 58 year member of the Aetna Engine Company #1 in Fultonville where he served two terms as Fire Chief. He bowled on the Fultonville Men?s League. On July 3, 1954, he married the former Laurel Meyers, who passed away on August 5, 2002. Survivors include his loving family: a son, Ronald Wadsworth of Petersburgh, Illinois; a daughter, Sharon Coddington and her husband Larry of Fultonville; two granddaughters, Lisa Vosburgh and her husband Kevin of Johnstown, NY and Kelly Coddington of Fultonville; two grandsons, Chad Wadsworth and his wife Christina of Austin, Texas and Shaun Coddington and his wife Julie of Amsterdam; five great grandchildren, Samuel and Luke Wadsworth of Austin, Texas and Sarah Thomas and John Coddington of Amsterdam. Several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Joyce Jennings officiating. Burial will take place in the Charleston 4 Corners Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will take place on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. The Aetna Engine Company #1 will meet at 6 pm that evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in George?s memory to the Fultonville Reformed Church, P.O. Box 151, Fultonville, NY 12072 or to the Aetna Engine Company #1, P.O. Box 312, Fultonville, NY.
