June 30th, 1913 - April 19th, 2006
Arthur Ephraim Baker, age 92 passed away peacefully on the morning of April 19, 2006 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, New York. Arthur was born June 30, 1913 in Flushing N.Y. to Arthur E. Baker and Alice M. Campbell. He spent much of his childhood in Port Jefferson Long Island. He was a graduate of Jamaica High School, attended Blair Academy and received a Bachelor Degree in Business from Lehigh University in 1935. He married his loving wife, Doris Lee Hamilton on July 5, 1941 and together they raised five children in their house overlooking Port Jefferson harbor. In 1973 Arthur moved his family to Mayfield, New York and fulfilled his life-long dream by purchasing a marina on Sacandaga Lake. With the help of his wife and children, he ran Grandview Marina on Lakeside Drive until he retired and sold it to Bruce Miller of Johnstown in 1994. He continued to live out his days in the house on the lake, taking great pleasure every morning looking out to check the water level and to see what was going on out on the docks. He was passionate about wooden boats, he would often laugh and refer to fiberglass boats as ?Clorox bottles?. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dee Dee Baker of Mayfield, two sons, Arthur E. Skipper Baker and his wife Cynthia of Rocky Point, New York and Donald G. Baker of Palm Bay, Florida; three daughters, Linda Lee Weber and her husband Jim of Boca Raton, Florida, Mary Beth Jensen and her husband Mark of O?Fallon, Illinois and Barbara Ann Ferraro and her husband Glenn, of Glen, New York. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 am from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville.
