Alice R. Groves

Alice R. Groves, 75, of the Town of Johnstown, passed away at home early Friday morning, February 9, 2018 after being suddenly stricken. She was born May 15, 1942 in Gloversville, to her late parents Archibald and Elvira Smith Montoney. Alice was married to Frederick George Groves Sr. on September 10, 1963, and they had five children who survive: Debora Soltner (David), Susan Graham (Shane), Frederick Groves Jr. (Gail), Michael Groves (Melissa) and Carie Durrin (Nate). She has 13 grandchildren: Gary (Jasmine), Katie Brian), Shane (Amber), Samantha (Tim), Frederick (Ashley), Brandon, Samantha (Alex), Michael, Austin, Cody, Isabella, Allison and Tyler. She had 8 great-grandchildren: Colton, Briella, Kyler, Ryder, Liam, Maddison, Jace and Olyivia. Another great-grandchild is on the way, Adaline Lily. She is also survived by a sister, Joan Montoney Groves; a sister-in-law, Barbara Whitman and a brother-in-law, Gary Groves, with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alice was predeceased by her husband Frederick in 2005, her parents, a brother-in-law Arthur Whitman Jr. and her husband's parents Marguerite and George Edward Groves. She loved spending time with her family, especially all the children. She will be sadly missed by all. She loved to garden and go camping and to birdwatch out in Fred's tree. Alice is a member of Foothills United Methodist Church and of Christian Faith. She was known to many who went through her lines at Walmart where she was a cashier. She always greeted everyone with a friendly smile and kind words. She retried on 2015 as a result of declining health. She suffered heart complications over the last few years. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7pm Monday, February 12 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will take place 10am Tuesday with the Rev. Moon Ho Kim officiating. Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
