George Madnick

George Madnick died on February 20, 2006, in Boynton Beach, Florida. He was born in Gloversville in 1915 and graduated from Gloversville High School. George was one of Lexington Center?s original founders. In 1955, he played an integral role in organizing a group of parents of children with developmental disabilities and dedicated himself to establishing a school program for them by raising funds, locating staff, creating partnerships with local school districts, and coordinating the purchase of Lexington?s first building, which was used for a sheltered workshop. He was a Past President and current Treasurer of the Lexington Center Board of Directors and served as Chairman of the Lexington Foundation for the past 20 years. George was employed at The Grandoe Corporation for 55 years as Superintendent and Assistant to the Chairman of the Board, retiring in 1988. He was a former Fulton County Community Services Board member, as well as a former Board member of the Knesseth Israel Synagogue and the Jewish Community Center. A member of the Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education for 11 years, he served as President of the Board during his last year of service in 1971. In 1995 George was the recipient of the Law Day Liberty Bell Award and in 2003 was honored by the Gloversville Enlarged School District and inducted into their Hall of Fame. He was most recently honored by the Lexington Center and the Lexington Foundation last August at the 50th anniversary celebration of Lexington Center and the 20th anniversary of the Lexington Foundation for his dedication and commitment to the people and programs at Lexington Center. Predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Mynn Frisch Madnick, George is survived by Beate Rosenbaum-Madnick, whom he married in 2001. He is also survived by his brother Herman; sons Stuart Judy and Michael; granddaughters Stephanie Madnick Marnin Vicki and Elisa Madnick Platt Michael; and great-granddaughter, Sophie Mynn Marnin, in addition to Ronald Rosenbaum Steffi, Neil Rosenbaum Debbie, and Robin Rosenbaum Fischer David and their children Alex Rosenbaum; Elyssa, Michael, Rachel, and Sarah Rosenbaum; and Logan and Emily Fischer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 24th, at the Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 East Fulton Street, Gloversville.
