William A. VanWie
September 5th, 1917 - January 19th, 2006
William A. VanWie, 88, of South Pawling Street, Hagaman, passed away late Thursday evening at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. He had been a patient there for several days, and his loving family was at his side. Born in Amsterdam on Sept. 5, 1917, the son of Alfred and Lillian Colts VanWie, he lived in this area his entire life. Bill was employed for the Jones Dairy Farm and Mohawk Dairy for a number of years, and lastly by Cranesville Block, retiring in 1985. A hardworking family man, he enjoyed stock car races and snowmobiling. He was a communicant of St. Stephen?s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-five years, the former Rose Vitus. They were united in marriage on Sept. 28, 1941. He is also survived by his children, William J. VanWie of Hagaman, David VanWie of Edinburgh, Carol Anderson of Hagaman, and Elizabeth Gross of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Shelly Cloutier, Beth and Mary Gross, William and Jonathan VanWie; great grandchildren, Cody and Taylor Cloutier; brother, Kenneth VanWie of Fonda; sister, Lois Brown of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a sister, Ada Smith, and a stepsister, Margaret Riska. Services are Tuesday at 9:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Stephen?s Church, Hagaman with Fr. Ronald Matulewicz, celebrant. Interment is in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday evening from 5-8 pm at the funeral home, where a Legacy Candle Ceremony will take place at 7:45 pm. Contributions may be made to the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department, or the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, both in care of the funeral home office. Bill?s family would like to specially thank the staff at ?C.H.C? and Dr. Kathleen Catalano of Johnstown for their care and concern for him during his illness.
